SPECIAL GUESTS
john westbrook
Students in Mrs. Westbrook's English I and English II classes wrote resumes in lieu of more traditional "Tell Me About Yourself" assignments given at the start of a class.
John Westbrook, a Talent Acquisition Specialist for Manpower and Mrs. Westbrook's brother-in-law, was then invited to speak to them about the importance of job resumes. Via Facetime, he shared tips on how best to organize them, answered questions, and led instruction in Mrs. Westbrook's classroom--all from his office in Raleigh.
One week later, he visited our classes to consult students on their finished resumes and to give them tips on marketing themselves in an interview.
joseph falkner
Local entrepreneur Joseph Falkner visited Mrs. Westbrook's English I and English II students to talk about his bowtie business, Carolina Pines. He shared his story in order to stress the importance of young people having visions for their futures and then setting specific goals toward those visions. See more about him on Tarheel Traveler and by reading his story on the Carolina Pines website.
Joseph is a 2010 graduate of Northern Vance High School in Henderson, NC. He will graduate from North Carolina State University in the spring of 2015. |
